I woke up this morning, made my tea and bacon, and sat down to read the word. I randomly opened my husband’s bible to Proverbs 1, 2 and 3. I read some of it and then closed it. Awhile later, I reopened the bible randomly and found myself on the same page again. Was God trying to tell me something?  I read through the 3 chapters but this time with a fine tooth comb and there it was.
“By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,
by understanding he set the heavens in place;
by his knowledge the watery depths were divided,
and the clouds let drop the dew.”
Proverbs 3:19-20
  Wow! By His wisdom, understanding, and knowledge God laid foundations, placed the heavens and divided the watery depths. If God used wisdom to lay foundations for His own creations, how much more do I need it in my own life? What foundation is my own family being built on and would it withstand the turbulence of this world? This verse is eye opening and a reality check. Do I seek after God and ask for His wisdom in all that I do?
Next, “by understanding he set the heavens in place.” According to google in all its’ infinite wisdom, understanding means to have insight or good judgement. Now God placed the heavens using insider information and good judgement. I need that God! God didn’t randomly place the heavens somewhere hoping it would work out. He used his infinite understanding, insider information and good judgement because God doesn’t make mistakes. He didn’t place YOU somewhere randomly. He didn’t ask you to set a dream aside, to go after something He is calling you to do if He didn’t KNOW it was the best action plan for you. You aren’t where you are by chance. God has placed you there with His understanding, with His fatherly love saying “Follow me, you can trust me, I have placed you here intentionally. ” Not only is God in control but I need His understanding with all the choices I make in my own life. I need that insider information so that I can not only make good choices, but so I can lead my children well too.
Lastly, “by his knowledge the watery depths were divided.” This verse grabbed my attention even more than the other two if you can imagine that. Often times, when I am lost in confusion and worry….the truth of what is real, God’s love, depression, hope and joy all seem to mix together. It is hard to decipher which direction to take when the dark, murky waters of life descend on you. God used his knowledge to divide the watery depths. When I think of the watery depths, I imagine the deepest, darkest part of the ocean, where all the creepy fish hang out and there’s no light to be seen. Where all hope seems to be lost and you feel unreachable.There is no place too dark for God to follow you, no place too murky that he couldn’t make a way for you. God can take any person, any situation and transform it into something absolutely beautiful. Not only does God transform the impossible to possible but He also has the power to divide the truth from the lies. Often times in life there are “grey” areas, our beliefs overlap with the worlds beliefs. This can bring uncertainty and confusion. God wants us to live with fruits of the spirit, love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
    I don’t know where you are today, but I can tell you He will meet you wherever you are and however you are. If you need His help laying foundations with your new marriage or wisdom on the next career move, He is there. Maybe you need his help climbing out of depression or overcoming anxiety, He is there.
I will leave you with this final thought,  “and the clouds let drop the dew.” Dew can only be found in the hottest of seasons, it is layed during the night while we are sleeping, and it lays on the ground so gently as to not disturb the crops, grass or anything it touches. Dew is a gift to the earth to be fruitful because God let it be so. Knowledge, wisdom, and understanding are all gifts from God. My prayer for you today is that you do what you can, plant the seed, and let God do the rest. He will come during the hottest of seasons, drop the dew of hope so that you will be fruitful not for your glory but for HIS.
